Haskayne & Downholland Community Association - HDCA

HDCA Bingo Night

HDCA Bingo Night, in the Village Hall

Photo Haskayne SwingsThe HDCA was founded in the early 1970's to provide facilities for children and young people in the civil parish of Downholland. Over the next few years the scope of the association widened.

In 1980 the HDCA became a registered charity and stated its aims. The focus of the Association was to provide a Village Hall for the Downholland parishioners.

Over the next 20 or so years the Association raised about £60,000 towards the hall with monthly bingos, car boot sales and an annual Christmas collection with a Christmas float which brought Santa Claus to the area.

West Lancs District Council Offered £45,000 for the hall on receipt of a successful lottery bid. This was achieved in 2001 when the Association was awarded £127,000 from the Communities Fund. Building began in November 2001 and the Hall opened for business in September 2002. Mr L O Jeffs a friend and benefactor of Haskayne and the Hall project officially opened the Hall in June 2003.
