Following an entry made by the Parish Council, Downholland has won the coveted Lancashire Calor Village of the Year award. Seen receiving the award from Nick Parrot of Calor (first left) and Sonja Rewhorn of Government Office North West are (left to right) Eamon Duffy and Andrew Johnson of Downholland Parish Council and Cliff Kenyon of the HDCA. The winners of each regional award are automatically entered into the national competition for the English Village of the Year award.

Feeling Fit? Why not join our Footpath Group? We aim to meet on the last Sunday of every month to walk paths in the local area, around Sefton or perhaps further afield. Boots or strong footware advisable.

In December 2003, the Parish Council decided to make a start with a Parish Plan with a Public meeting in February 2004. We wanted to find out what the community felt were the local problems and opportunities and to work out ways of achieving our communities vision for the future.
As many parishioners will remember we had a Parish Exhibition and Visioning Event in September 2004 and sent out questionnaires about that time.
There was an amazing response to both events which gave the Parish Plan Steering group – chaired by Eamon Duffy - a real insight into the concerns and aspirations of the residents of the Parish.
The information gathered was put into a Community Audit Report and the final Parish Plan- a summary of the Report’s findings -was published in November 2005.
The topics covered were
1. Local Health and Health Care
2. Traffic and Road Safety
3. Youth and Youth Facilities
4. Developing a Viable Community
5. Enhancing the Local Environment
The completed Parish Plan is now available as a pdf download. If you have enjoyed looking at out website, please let us have your comments. We'd love to hear from you. Contact Andrew Johnson on andvon@globalnet.co.uk
