Aiming for excellence in a Christian family environment.

Downholland Haskayne Church of England Primary School represents all that is in the best in the small village school. In addition providing an excellent academic and practical education, we believe Haskayne C of E School is distinctive because its educational philosophy is founded on Christian principles that are reflected in the ethos and the curriculum.

We believe that all children are equal and precious in the sight of God and should be valued as individuals. We recognise the talents of each child, drawing out their full potential in the pursuit of excellence through the avenue of praise and encouragement. The small school environment of Haskayne is the best possible for putting these ideals into practice. The caring atmosphere within our school gives the children a feeling of security, self-worth and belonging: we are confident that every individual fulfils their potential.

We encourage children to take a pride in themselves and their work, using praise to foster self-esteem. This results in happy, confident children who have a love of learning and who enjoy their life at school.

Sketch of schoolAt the present time we have 32 children organised into three classes of twelve children each morning, for the core subjects of Maths, Literacy and Science, and two classes in the afternoon for foundation subjects such as art, PE, geography and history. We have an excellent pupil teacher ratio that enables us to treat each child as an individual ensuring maximum progress. Differentiated work is planned in detail to meet the needs of each child.

Most of our school has been refurbished over the last four years; we have new cloakroom and toilet facilities and superb play areas with a wide range of small play equipment and in addition to large fixed play equipment to encourage physical development for all age ranges.

We have three classrooms that interlink and are bright and fully equipped with new resources and furniture. We have an additional dedicated small group room to complete the teaching facilities. The curriculum is well resourced to a very high standard; we ensure that children with specific needs have technology based resources for their own individual use, at home and at school.
